Nairobi Summit President Wolfgang Petritsch presents a copy of the 2004 Nairobi Declaration – signed by representatives of over 100 States – to “representatives of the public conscience” Tun Channaret and Song Kosal of Cambodia. Observing this presentation are: the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Chirau Ali Mwakwere; 1997 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Jody Williams; and, former President of the ICRC and current President of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, Cornelio Sommaruga. |
The Implementation Support Unit (ISU) provides secretariat services and professional support to the AP Mine Ban Convention and its States Parties. The GICHD, which has been supportive of the Convention since the Convention entered into force, established the ISU on the basis of a 2001 mandate agreed to by the Convention's States Parties. This mandate sees the ISU provide support to the Convention's President, Standing Committee Co-Chairs and individual States Parties in pursuing their aims an in ensuring the effective operations of the Convention.
